Our story
Coma started more than ten years ago as a one-person studio. I had a full-time job as a marketing project manager at an international travel company, and I built websites at night — partly because I genuinely loved it, and partly because I wanted to make a small corner of the web a little better.
I had spent a lot of time exploring open-source projects, and WordPress was the one I fell for: flexible, approachable, and backed by a huge ecosystem of themes and plugins. At the time I was also DJing, and I wanted somewhere to share my music — so my very first WordPress site was my own music blog. (It is still online at djcoma.lv.) Friends from the DJ scene asked for the same, and I built blogs for them too.
Then the requests changed. Friends began asking for business websites, word spread, and soon people I had never met were getting in touch. For a while I ran on very little sleep — day job by day, WordPress until 4 a.m. Eventually I had to choose. I left the stable job and bet on the thing I actually wanted to do. It was a real risk: no safety net, no guarantee it would work.
It did. The projects kept coming, and a few years in I hired my first employee — that is when I met Alina, and the moment Coma stopped being a side project and became a proper company. Today we are a full team of designers, developers, project managers and hosting engineers, but the original idea has not changed: build websites we are proud of, and treat every client’s project as our own.
