# How to Disable Automatic Update Email Notifications

Nov 9, 2025/by [Vadim Pavlovich](https://coma.lv/en/author/djcoma/)

Have you noticed that WordPress sometimes sends you emails saying that your site has been updated? Such notifications appear after automatic updates of the core, plugins or themes. If you have several WordPress sites, you will get an email from each of them. Sometimes this can be annoying. Fortunately, the notifications can be easily turned off.

## About Automatic Updates in WordPress

WordPress is open source software that is constantly being developed by a large community of developers. The system is updated regularly to fix security vulnerabilities, eliminate bugs and add new features.

That is why you should always use the latest version of WordPress – to make sure your site is safe to use and keeps up with the times.

By default WordPress automatically installs minor (small) security updates, and in recent versions you can enable automatic updates of themes and plugins right in the admin area. After an update, the site sends the administrator an email notification saying that the update was successful or that an error occurred.

If you do not want to receive these notifications, you can turn them off in several ways.

## Method 1. Disable Notifications with a Plugin

The easiest way is to use a plugin that manages notifications. [Manage Notification E-mails](https://wordpress.org/plugins/manage-notification-emails/) does this well. After that, a **Settings → Notification e-mails** section will appear in the admin area, where you can choose which emails WordPress will send and which to disable. For example, you can disable notifications about successful automatic updates of the core, plugins and themes. Emails about update errors will still always be sent to administrators, so you do not miss any possible problems.

For centralized management of updates and notifications, [Easy Updates Manager](https://wordpress.org/plugins/stops-core-theme-and-plugin-updates/) is convenient. After installation a **Dashboard → Update Options** section will appear in the menu, where you can:

- enable or disable automatic updates for the core, themes and plugins;
- choose which notifications will be sent to your email;
- completely disable sending emails after automatic updates.

## Method 2. Disable Notifications with Code

If you prefer not to install extra plugins, you can use a simple code snippet. Add it to your theme’s functions.php file or to a snippet through a plugin such as Code Snippets:

add_filter( 'auto_core_update_send_email', 'wpb_stop_auto_update_emails', 10, 4 ); function wpb_stop_auto_update_emails( $send, $type, $core_update, $result ) { if ( ! empty( $type ) && $type == 'success' ) { return false; } return true; }

This code will disable emails about successful WordPress core updates but keep error notifications, so you do not miss important problems.

This way you can keep only the truly important emails and free your inbox from unnecessary notifications. Your site will continue to update automatically and stay secure — just without the extra noise.
