Did you know that when a user adds a link in a comment, WordPress automatically makes it clickable? In this article we will show you how you can get rid of that.

## Why Does WordPress Make Links Clickable in Comments?

WordPress automatically makes links clickable so that it is easier for you to moderate comments. This happens not only in the comments section itself but also in the admin panel.

However, spammers can take advantage of this to insert direct links into the comment field.

## Disabling Automatic Link Conversion

Just add this line of code to your site’s functions.php file:

remove_filter( &#039;comment_text&#039;, &#039;make_clickable&#039;, 9 );

This code simply disables the filter that makes links clickable. If you want to restore things to how they were, just remove this code. Also, if you add code to the functions.php file, a theme update may overwrite this file. Also keep in mind that this code only works with links in plain text form: if a user decides to add a link using HTML tags, those links will be clickable.
