# How to Delete All WordPress Comments in One Go

Nov 24, 2024/by [Vadim Pavlovich](https://coma.lv/en/author/djcoma/)

It is rare, but in some cases a site owner may decide to delete all the comments from their site. In this article we will show how you can do this in one go.

## Before You Delete All Comments in WordPress

There are many scenarios in which a user may really need to delete all the comments from a site. For example, if your site is full of empty comments created to test functionality. First of all, you need to back up your site. Deleting comments is an irreversible action and you will not be able to restore everything once the comments are deleted. That is exactly why you need to make a backup.

## Method One: Delete All Comments on a WordPress Site with a Plugin

First you need to install and activate the [WP Bulk Delete](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-bulk-delete/) plugin. After activating it, go to WP Bulk Delete in the dashboard menu and choose Delete Comments. Select the types of comments to delete and click the Delete Comments button.

Now you can go to the comments page and you will see that all comments have been removed from the site.

## Method Two: Delete All Comments on a WordPress Site with phpMyAdmin

You can also quickly delete all WordPress comments using MySQL or [phpMyAdmin](https://coma.lv/en/2025/07/16/managing-a-wordpress-database-with-phpmyadmin-a-beginners-guide/). This method is recommended for more advanced users. Log in to your hosting’s cPanel and, under the databases area, click phpMyAdmin.

Inside you need to find your WordPress database. You will see a page like this with a bunch of database tables.

Tick the box next to the wpprefix_comments and wpprefix_commentmeta tables. The name of the comments table may differ depending on the prefix you chose when installing WordPress. After selecting the comments tables, find the With selected: drop-down menu below the list of tables and choose Empty from the drop-down menu. phpMyAdmin will now show a warning asking whether you really want to empty these tables.

Click the yes button and this will delete all WordPress comments from your database. You can also delete all WordPress comments using the MySQL console (command line). Just log in to it and enter the following command:
**DELETE FROM wp_commentmeta;
DELETE FROM wp_comments;**
