# How to Disable RSS Feeds in WordPress

[RSS feeds](https://coma.lv/2016/10/25/12-sovetov-kak-optimizirovat-vash-rss-feed-v-wordpress/) let users subscribe to your blog posts. However, they are not needed if you are building small sites. Moreover, RSS is used less and less actively, as most users prefer other ways of getting news and content. By default, WordPress has no option to remove RSS, but do not despair, because in this article we will tell you how it can be done.

## Method One: Remove RSS Feeds with a Plugin

This is the simplest and most recommended method for beginners. First you need to install and activate the [Disable Feeds](https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-feeds-wp/) plugin. The plugin works without any fuss and will redirect users to your site every time they request an RSS feed.

There are two behavior options that can be configured on the Settings > Reading page.

By default the plugin will redirect users to your site every time they request a feed. For example, if users request the feed of a category page, they will be redirected to the category page itself. If you want, you can change this and set up a 404 error page to be displayed.

## Method Two: Disable Feeds in WordPress Manually

Just add this code to the functions.php file of your child theme or use a plugin for inserting custom code:

This code simply returns an error page when someone requests an RSS feed.
